Introduction

This guide is directed to system administrators who configure, operate, and maintain the Silicon Graphics® IRIS® SNA SERVER. The server contains the Systems Network Architecture (SNA) protocols that enable network connectivity and performance for such IRIS SNA SERVER-related products as the IRIS SNA 3270 and IRIS SNA 3770 terminal emulator software and the IRIS SNA LU 6.2 software.

This guide first describes how to set up the IRIS SNA SERVER. It then tells you how to configure the various host connections using the IRIS SNAView graphical user interface network management tool. Instructions for operating the IRIS SNA SERVER and managing LU 6.2 sessions follow. Although a glossary is provided, this guide assumes a knowledge of SNA terminology.

Note: Users who do not have Silicon Graphics terminals can still use the VT100 user interface programs. Refer to the IRIS SNA SERVER VT100 Interface Guide (007-1593-010), which is part of this manual set.

Using This Guide

The IRIS SNA SERVER Administration Guide is organized into these chapters and appendices:

Chapter 1

“Introduction to the IRIS SNA SERVER” describes the
product and system dependencies and discusses the relationship of the IRIS SNA SERVER to other IRIS SNA products. A description of the IRIS Token Ring and Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC)) communications protocol devices and instructions for setting up IRIS Token Ring are also given.

Chapter 2

“Setting Up the IRIS SNA SERVER” provides instructions for setting up the IRIS SNA SERVER software. You are also introduced to the IRIS SNAView graphical user interface network management tool.

Chapter 3

“Configuring the IRIS SNA SERVER” contains detailed instructions for configuring your IRIS SNA SERVER and concludes with a tutorial in which you create a new configuration.

Chapter 4

“IRIS SNA SERVER Operations” describes how to activate and deactivate the IRIS SNA SERVER, as well as how to perform a trace-line operation and monitor the server's status.

Chapter 5

“Managing IRIS SNA LU 6.2 Sessions” explains how to manage SNA LU 6.2 sessions and how to control the number of sessions that are active in the LU 6.2 network.

Appendix A

“IRIS SNA SERVER Product Features and Implemented Functions” describes the product features and supported function sets for the IRIS SNA SERVER and the LU 0-3.

Appendix B

“Major and Minor Return Codes” lists and defines the major and minor error codes returned by all of the API verbs (that is, the SNA SERVER, LU 6.2, and LU 0-3 verbs).

Appendix C

“Message Guide” lists the messages that are either displayed on the screen or printed in the log during SNA communication operations.

Appendix D

“Man Pages” consist of category (1) and (1M) man pages related to the IRIS SNA SERVER.
